Auction Report: Audemars Piguet Will Sell A Unique Royal Oak Chronograph To Benefit Clean Water Charity One Drop

First up, let’s look at the watch. What you’ve got here is a Royal Oak Chronograph ref. 26331, rendered in solid platinum with a purple “Grande Taipisserie” dial with blue sub-registers and rehaut. It comes on a solid platinum Royal Oak bracelet but there is also a blue alligator strap included in case you want to swap that bracelet out for something a little lighter on the wrist. Just as a reminder, this is the 41mm version of the Royal Oak Chrono, not the new 38mm version. If you’ve never worn a platinum Royal Oak before, it’s something else entirely. The weight is almost overwhelming, but because of the comfort of the case and bracelet it weirdly works. The purple dial looks stunning in the images we’ve got here and if it’s anything like AP’s other purple dials I can confidently say it must be even more awesome in the metal. Capping things off, the caseback is engraved “UNIQUE PIECE” (you know, in case there were any doubts). The estimated value of the watch heading into the sale is $112,000 – for comparison’s sake, the same reference in stainless steel retails for $24,300 and in rose gold retails for $56,600.
