Watches & Pencils #40 – Vacation Time!

After an intense year of working and creating illustrations the best period of the years kicks in for me: summer vacation!

Emotional Layer

While a watch with a day-date function indicates the days, every day has its own events, emotion and theme. The indication that it is ‘Monday’ triggers something else for everyone. Every time it shows up on a watch. In my case, this Monday refers to the start of something beautiful: vacation time! This emotional layer is what I also tried to make clear in the illustration above.

Vacation And Watches

During my vacation, I do not really care about the watches I wear. It will probably be a Seiko diver or even a quartz watch… I don’t want to focus too much on time during my vacation. It already goes by that quick. Still, I’m fascinated by the watches I spot now and then during my vacation. Even on campsides, I see people strolling by with expensive watches.

Seiko SKX007. A decent vacation watch in my opinion.

Leave Your Smartwatch Home

While I can understand that you like to wear a decent watch all year long I would not recommend wearing a so-called ‘smartwatch’. People are increasingly getting a burn-out and we all have fear of missing out. This device keeps triggering your brain from looking at it from time to time. Of course, the same goes for smartphones. My tip would be to leave those watches home and really try to relax abandon the ‘digital life’ for some time.

Tip: leave your smartwatch at home.

I will go to the Eifel-area in Germany this year. Did not do the research yet, but I might visit some watch shops/companies in this area. Do you have tips? What watch do you wear during your vacation?

See you within a few weeks and happy tanning!
