I have reviewed Szanto in the past and I really like their vintage inspired line of watches. Cars and watches are two things I really like, but I have never personally felt the desire for Motorsport watches. Why that is, I really have no idea. I am absolutely crazy about dive watches, though. I think one reason could just be the fact that I have never worn a motorsport watch. Maybe this review will help turn me in a different watch loving direction – one never knows!
The Dials
I really like the vintage look on these dials. I especially like the cream dial on the Motorsport 3003, as well as how the red hands really pop out from those black sub dials. The 3101 is also very nice with that black dial. As on the cream dial, the red index ring and red hands really look good, just here they’re set against the black. The hour number markers are the same on both (large and in charge) and the chrono pushers on both models have a touch of red that pairs perfectly with the dial. Both the Motorsport 3101 and 3003 have the same chronograph function but with different sub dial placements. Powering this chronograph is a Japanese Quartz 3 Eye Chronograph Movement. The dial is protected by a hardened mineral crystal.
The Case
The cases on the Szanto Motorsports are made from 316L stainless steel. There is a nice mix of brushed and polished finishes. All the Motorsports have a tachymeter bezel. I really like the look of that but I have never been able to figure out how they work – nor will I even try anymore. They just look good. The chronograph pushers are nicely polished and really look good with the red accent. The crown is screw down with the Szanto logo. Water resistance is a decent 100 meters which is just fine for a land watch.
The Straps
Szanto really did good with the straps here. Both straps are 22mm leather straps with multi-hole patterns & signature buckles. They are very soft and flexible and the stitching looks great. Hard for me to say which one I like more, the large holes on the 3101 or the smaller holes on the 3003. Both are really nice.
Overall Impression
As I mentioned I am not really that into motorsport watches but I really do like the look of these Szanto Motorsports. The case finishes are very nice and those straps are excellent. For only $ 275 USD you get a pretty cool looking watch that looks fantastic on the wrist. I think I could wear one these, sometimes. If you want a nice vintage looking motorsport watch then you need to check these out at szantotime.com.
