Our Spot the Watch segment usually features sports and showbiz personalities, which is unsurprising given the airtime that they typically receive. This time, we’ve spotted not one, but two extraordinary timepieces off the beaten path in the field of cryptocurrency. Riccardo Spagni, one of the core developers of the leading privacy coin Monero, sported an MB&F Legacy Machine No 2 and a Jacob & Co Astronomia in episodes 2 and 3 of Magical Crypto Friends, a monthly show on YouTube discussing hot topics on cryptocurrencies.
Monero, as the leading cryptocurrency with a focus on privacy, uses cryptography to shield sending and receiving addresses, as well as transacted amounts. This is in contrast to the more well-known Bitcoin where – at the time of writing – transactions are openly verifiable and and traceable. Now onto the watches.
In episode 2 of Magical Crypto Friends, Spagni was wearing an MB&F Legacy Machine No 2! The Legacy Machine No 2 by MB&F was inspired by the Duality timepiece made by Philippe Dufour, which was the first watch to have two escapements linked to a differential gear system which averages out their rates. The one on the wrist of Riccardo Spagni is the 18 piece limited edition with a green dial and titanium case. It features two escapements that run independent of each other and their rates are averaged out by a differential.

In episode 3, we saw him rocking an epic watch from Jacob & Co, the Astronomia Tourbillon Black. This features a DLC coated 18 ct white gold case with a multi axis tourbillon and representation of the earth and the moon.
The Jacob & Co Astronomia Tourbillon . A slightly different version below but the mechanics are the same.
Two epic watches and the first time in our Spot the Watch we have seen Jacob & Co and MB&F owned by someone.
Apart from the YouTube videos, we saw a picture of Riccardo Spagni on Twitter and he was wearing a heavy hitting model from Panerai. He was rocking a PAM 578 Lo Scienziato, which is the skeletonised model with 30 second tourbillon and titanium case.
