Business News: Tudor Joins Facebook With An In-Depth Brand Timeline

Tudor 01.jpg?ixlib=rails 1.1

Tudor has been one of the more active watch brands on Instagram for some time now (follow them at @tudorwatch if you don’t already), but now the Swiss manufacture has hopped onto Facebook. This might not seem like the biggest news in the world, but in the notoriously traditional watch industry, ramping up social media is still very much a work-in-progress. You can visit the brand new page here, and there are a few things you should definitely check out while you’re there.

The most interesting thing about Tudor’s Facebook page is how they’ve chosen to use the Timeline. Instead of just a series of daily posts and such, Tudor’s created an interactive timeline (note the lowercase “t” here) that marks important milestones in the brand’s history. These range from the 2015 introduction of Tudor’s very first in-house movements, the MT5621 and MT5612, to the creation of the first Oysterdate Chronograph in 1970, to the birth of the brand itself in 1926, illustrated with a letter registering the Tudor trademark. For each of these historical notes, there’s a link to a more detailed story and timeline on Tudor’s website too, so you can really get into the history. There are also photos and videos on the page itself, and I expect the selection will continue to grow significantly with time.

In a strange reversal of roles, Rolex has been on Facebook since way back in 2013. Typically it’s Tudor that ventures out into the world of the new, shiny, and digital before its big brother, but here the tables are turned. Rolex even joined Instagram in 2015, amassing nearly five million followers in the year and a half since. The staggered moves onto Facebook and Instagram by the two brands is unusual, but there’s likely a bigger strategy at work here (note, neither is on Twitter, nor do I expect they ever will be). Whether or not the Tudor and Rolex Facebook pages will interact in any way is something to look out for in the future.

It will be interesting to see how Tudor continues to use and update the Facebook page, especially as the follower count ticks up and the community grows. You can bet we’ll be following along.
