Vladimir Putin’s Platinum Patek Philippe Ref 5208 Sells for $1.25 million

Earlier in July, Monaco Legend Auctions swung the auction hammer at 1,062,000 Euros on this piece which was papered in the name of “Mr Vladimir Vladimirovic Putin” (though lot notes suggest it was a gift to him):

Part of the Grand Complications line of Patek Philippe, the reference 5208 is one of the masterpieces of the manufacture.  Made in a very small quantity, clients that can purchase this reference are very carefully selected.  As far as we know the client had ordered this watch to Patek Philippe in order to give it as a gift to the Russian President Vladimir Putin. Patek Philippe dealer/distributor is the only one allowed to fill the certificate, in 99% of the time the name wrote on the certificate is the actual buyer; but in very very few exceptional case, when the watch has to be given as a gift to someone else and the distributor has enough proof of it, then the name of the person receiving the gift is written on the certificate.

Patek Philippe, Ref. 5208P. Made circa 2014.

Fine, extremely rare and important platinum, self-winding perpetual calendar single-button chronograph with minute-repeater with a Patek Philippe platinum deployant clasp. Accompanied by its original box, certificate and booklets.
