Despite being two weeks removed from HODINKEE 10, there’s still one discussion that I just can’t stop thinking about: Joe Thompson’s conversation with Jean-Claude Biver. When you have the most knowledgable and well-respected journalist writing about watches today sitting on stage across from a genuine industry legend, something good is bound to happen and the two gents did not disappoint. Their candid conversation lasted well over an hour (including answers to a few questions from the standing-room-only audience) and covered everything from Biver’s history in the business, some early tricks that gave him a leg up during the Blancpain days, and where he sees things going in the next 20 or 30 years.
If you’ve never had the opportunity to hear Jean-Claude speak, there’s not much I can say here to prepare you. The man is unbelievably passionate, thoughtful, and savvy, and he’s not afraid to let you know. He’s a true force of nature and someone whose mark is going to be visible on the watch industry for decades to come.
