From any other brand this new piece might be described as odd or weird, but from Hermès — unusual and quirky seems more apropos. How else to describe a watch that ostensibly wants you to loathe the wait? The Slim d’Hermès l’Heure Impatiente is distinguished by its countdown function — up to 12 hours from the current moment, with an special 60-minute countdown indicator — as well as a chiming mechanism that strikes when time is up. The watch was created in tandem with Agenhor, the Geneva-based firm led by Jean-Marc Wiederrecht. Agenhor has done several other complications for Hermès (including Temps Suspendu, quaniteme perpetuel et double fuseau, & others) and also is behind similarly clever creations for the likes of Van Cleef & Arpels (poetic wish watches), Faberge, Romain Jerome (spacecraft watch) and others.

The crown at four o’clock sets the countdown function — as displayed on the nearby 12-hour sub-dial which indicates the event time. Further, as soon as only one hour remains in the countdown, there is a 60-minute countdown arc which advances to the final, single chime of the gong. The chime can also be activated manually at any time by using the pusher at nine o’clock. Trademark Hermes fonts also embellish the dial and counters.
The automatic base caliber inside is made by Vaucher (Hermès owns a minority stake in the entity), with Agenhor doing the countdown complication. There are some very peculiarly shapaed components in there (do I see a unicorn or winged horse and a shark????):
The Slim d’Hermès L’heure Impatiente in rose gold is priced at $ 39,900. I know, you can hardly wait.
